What We Danced at GX Spring 2022 

5th April 2022 

White Cockade    - features  Rights & Lefts at the end

Granville Market  - Featuring Right and Left Hands Across, Half figure of 8 and turning corners

City of Belfast  - Reel of 4 and the Espagnole : oh so elegant! 

Black Mountain Reel  - a 5 couple set with 1s and 3s as dancing couple - big job for the 4s in that they are corners facing both ways    

Catch the Wind- the one where the lady flirts with the man following her and only allows him to turn her at the end. Features reels of 3 across 

The Swan and the Tay The one with figures of 8 on the side,  reflection reels , with dancing couple crossing and Corners Pass & turn 

Bon Viveur - The square Medley, 2 slow, 2 fast with men's chain and Schiehallion reels.

De'il Among The Tailors   - features Right hands across , left hands back and the 3 couple Allemande 

Glastonbury Tor  includes half diagonal reels of 4 and set and link for 3 

29th March 2022 

Highland Fair    - features  Rights & Lefts at the end

Gaelforce Wind The one with Set and Link for 2 and then the Mens Chain at the beginning 

Duke of Atholl's Reel featuring Half  Right hands across and left back, and Set Advancing, Half figure of 8 and Rights & Lefts

12 Coates Crescent The slow one  with end couples coming in and then oit through the side back to place.   

The Tri-mariner - the very fast one with everyone moving at once and then a promenade and petronella turns into the middle. 

Slytherin House    - features Set and Link, Teapots and  the snakey movements 

Reel of 51st Division  - the famous  one devised by POWs in Germany in 1940, with turning of corners and balancing in line.

22nd March 2022 

Terrace Loggers Jig- featuring DoSiDo and Right hands across and left back

Highland Welcome- featuring circles, right hands across and Advance & retire

Kendall's Hornpipe - featuring Rights & lefts, Ladies Chain and Advance & RetireP

Laird of Miltons Daughter- featuring the Corner Chain

Sugar Candie - featuring half figures of 8,  Corner/Partner and reels of 3 

Scott Meikle - featuring  half figures of 8, right hands across and left back, tandem reels of 3 and half rights & lefts

Singing Sands - featuring the Tourbillon, and diagonal Rights & lefts, as well as th more familiar half figure of 8 and half Right Hands across

Miss Hadden's Reel- featuring circle, Allemande and Advance & Retire 

Craven Twelvesome- square set with 3 to each side. Features reels of 3 

15th March 2022 

The Lady Wynd - featuring Promenade, figure of 8 on the sides and teapots

Napier's Index - features balancing in line with corners and left shoulder reels of 3 up and down and then across 

Irish Rover- we certainly roved from the intended script!  Lots of elements to this one and all to a fast tune with little thinking time for anyone. 

Flower O' the Quern - very symmetrical with little circles either end and 1s and 4s moving in to middle positions. Reel of 4. Slow, but  deceptively tricky because quite a few bits to it.  

Shiftin' Bobbins - starts by crossing into double triangle position then features lots of teapots representing the bobbins

Good Hearted Glasgow - features teapots 

Water of Leith - features Reel of 4, Right Hands Across and the beautiful but slightly tricky Espagnole

What a Beau my Granny Was - featuring Rights & Lefts and the quick time poussette

Paisley Weavers    - features  the Grand Chain and the Ladies chain and half Rights and Lefts twice. 

De'il Among The Tailors   - features Right hands across , left hands back and the 3 couple Allemande 

1st March 2022 

Waratah Weaver  - weaving figures of 8 along the side lines 

Machine Without Horses -  one with 2 key formations we use a lot: Right Hands Across ( and Left) and Rights and Lefts.

General Stuart's Reel -  with Hello-Goodbye Setting and reels of 3 across.

Miss Welsh's Reel - features turning of corners and partners 

Neidpath Castle  slow, elegant one featuring the Grand Chain and half diamond poussettes

Neil M Grant - features half figures of 8, the Spoke, half diagonal reels of 4 and Teapots

Silver Grey - slow one with Rights and Lefts and a half figure of 8 

Jig to the Music - an easy one to finish with Advance & Retire and DoSiDo.

22nd February 2022 

Leap Year  - an easy one to get us going with hands across . Rose added a circle to end 

Rock & Wee Pickle Tow - featuring the quick time pousette.

Bow Fiddle Rock  - the one Chris led, with unusual turns to 2nd corner before the first and also half figures of 8 and reels of 3 

Montparnasse - elegant and with lovely French music this one featured half left hands across, a full reel of 4 and ended with the slow poussette

Major Ian Stewart- with reels of 3, the infamous hello-goodbye setting and the inelgant right leg over tuen inthe circle. What a dance!

Midsummer Common- another slow one with Set advancing to corners, little circles and more slow poussettes. They get better each time we do them.

15th February 2022 

Tribute to the Borders  - with tricky  half -reels on the mens side and then immediately the ladies side 

Castle of Mey    - features Inveran reels, double figures of 8 and quick time poussetteght hands across  

Slytherin House    - features Set and Link, Teapots and  the snakey movements 

Snake Pass    - features Right & Lefts, half diagonal reels and the Snake   

Triple Happiness   - the very elegant one which features the Knot and Corners Pass and Turn

Polharrow Burn  - the 5 couple dance, with 3 half diagonal reels of 4 and end couples chasing to the other end. 

De'il Among The Tailors   - features Right hands across , left hands back and the 3 couple Allemande 

8th February 2022 

Campbell's Frolic    - features Right hands across  

Cumbrae Reel    - the one with the first 2 couples doing varying amounts of Rights & lefts, down the set and back as a foursome , a reel of 4 across and turning of corner/partner/corner/partner 

Rothesay Rant   - a square set featuring ladies chain and 1/2 Rights & Lefts for 1s and 3s, then 2s and 4s

Rakes of Glasgow  - features Rights & Lefts  and the Allemande 

Fisherman's Reel   - the square one with dancing couple starting in the middle with  teapots and reels of 3 in promenade hold, then swapping 

Weathercock   - very fast one  with reels of 4,right hands across and a lot of chasing round to lines to all 4 points of the compass

Sleepy Maggie    - not so sleepy! features right hands across, turning corners in pas de Basque, and left shoulder reel of 3   

Argyll Strathspey    - features turna nd twirl, Rights and lefts and the tricky Tournee 

Johnnie Walke- the square medley 

1st February 2022 

Le Papillon    - features Rights & Lefts 

Light and Airy    - features  the allemande and  turning corner/partner/corner/partner

Reel for Alice   - the lovely new dance with reels on the opposite side, turning on the side all the way down, and then figures of 8 on the side from both ends at once. Val caused much mirth putting this on for us at double speed so Willie was proved right at last - it was the music not us! 

Slytherin House    - features Set and Link, Teapots and  the snakey movements 

Roselath Cross   - features crown triangles and reels of 3 

Paisley Weavers    - features  the Grand Chain and the Ladies chain and half Rights and Lefts twice. 

Flowers of Dunbeg    - features Right ( and left) Hands Across at both ends to start, Advance & Retire, and a lovely big circle to finish.

25th January 2022 - Burns Night

Jindalee Jig    - features  the Promenade

Linton Ploughman features Right Hands Across and Left Hands back and the quick time poussette

Kissing Bridge    - features  reels of 3 on opposite side, whoopsi turn and another quick time poussette

Kiss me Quick my Mither's Coming    - the unusual one with a succession of reels of 3 with everyone except your partner (!) and full figures of 8 to end. 

Muse Cottage    - a strathspey with another Promenade and a half figure of 8  at the end

Recumbent Stone    - nothing recumbent about this 5-couple set! At its heart are 3 half diagonal reels of 4 and one half reel of 4 up and down. 

Falls of Rogie- DANCE OF THE MONTH. Nothing inherently complicated but lots of bits and very fast. 

West's Hornpipe   - features reflection reels of 3 on partners side and then your own side.

18th January 2022

Highland Fair    - features  Rights & Lefts at the end

Mr Michael Bear's Reel - features  right hands across and left hands back with both 2s and 3s 

Mary Erskine - unusual sequence of formations here with the teapots on the side 

Asilomar Romantic - lots of tricky bits but mercifully slow! 

Falls of Rogie- DANCE OF THE MONTH. Nothing inherently complicated but lots of bits and very fast. We persuaded Rose to slow it down a bit but perhaps we'll get to full speed by the end of the month !

Glastonbury Tor  includes half diagonal reels of 4 and set and link for 3

MacDonald of Keppoch- the medley with 3/4 Right and Lefts then 2 Reels of 4 at 90 degrees.

Cramond Bridge - features half diagonal reels of 4 in promenade hold

Brudenell Jig    - features figures of 8 and Rights & Lefts

Honeymoon - where the 1s cast down behind the lines and then back  and featuring right hands across and left hands back
